Is Jesus An Interesting Subject?

Here is the dilemma... I find him one of the most interesting people in the world... But I don'tknow how people will react because obviously, everyone has something to say about him... so here's the deal... I'm non sectarian, don't go to church and I'm a skeptic... trouble is, Jesus existed and in History... so finding out about him, the real him should make for an interesting journey....

  1. Yes I guess he is interesting but many other historical figures, who really existed, could have, or did, become as important. Jesus'high profile is as much to do with Constantine the First actions that led to Christianity becoming the Roman (and later Byzantine)Empires official, state religion,as with the number of people who converted to Christianity from other religions . The spread of Christianity during Europe's Dark Ages could be seen as the ruling elite happily adopting a system that increased their control over their subjects.
He is as much a figurehead of the dictatorial and conservative Catholic church, extremist, right wing evangelical christians and, hopefully, a surviving strand of liberation theology. The sandal wearing hippy of sixties myth isn't really a central part of organised christianity - more PR spin.
I hope you disagree with most of the above(or life would be boring). I'd thoroughly recommend that your research includes Monty Pythons Life of Brian if you haven't seen it yet ;-)
If you are wondering I'm a friend of Sam Cajipe's from my London days (and via facebook), and we share an interest in Nirvana, Janis Joplin and the books of George RR Martin. And I think your facebook name is very cool.
